Modern Warfare 3 Focused On Better Single Player Story Telling

The original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare deviated from the path that the franchise had been going down for multiple iterations in their WWII affairs. The game didn't just move in a chronological fashion, it also shifted in the scale of the delivery as well. The game told a different story, a fictional account of Modern day warfare and espionage. Modern Warfare 2 upped the ante considerably, going bigger than the franchise had ever gone before. Eventhough the game was released in the fall, many likened it to the type of over the top action that you find in your local movie theatre at a summer blockbuster. Modern Warfare 3 has big shoes to fill this November, following in the footsteps of these first two games. Robert Bowling admits that the team is up to the task in a recent interview where he claimed the single player for Modern Warfare 3 to be "the payoff for the investment people have put in since Call of Duty 4."

Bowling admits that with all of the over the toppedness that Modern Warfare 2 had, the plot did get bogged down a good bit. Some of the intricacies that the first game had were gone, sacrificed for a single player experience with different intentions all together. Though the developer thinks it did do many things right with the story of Modern Warfare 2, "No Russian" was a prime example. "'No Russian' was a key story point for MW2. It's what really solidified Makarov as the villain that he is," Bowling told Joystiq. "It delivered the experience that we want it to deliver, that's why it always was in there from the start -- because we're telling a story and we're developing these characters, and that was an important stage in Makarov's development." Hopefully we'll see that this reflection on the developers past triumphs and missteps pays of as the best Call of Duty storyline yet.

That's great as I will mostly be playing this for the single player experience. MW2 was my first time playing a fps ever (besides arcade games that comes with a giant toy gun). To me, that single player was just like a giant rollercoaster ride, even though I really couldn't keep up with the story, character names, pretty much anything.

Hopefully that can improved. Call of Duty campaigns feel like that your on the only member on the team and I hope that they cut down on slow motion for every dramatic seen.
