What are you guys' thoughts on the future of console gaming? What do you think could possibly done to make a next generation console worth going out and buying? Or is it too early to tell?

I think it will really take something original and innovative to make it worth it. I just can't imagine what else could be done.

I think they should just stick with the current consoles they have now. They have a good system going and with people getting used to what we have now, releasing a new console probably wouldn't be a good idea.

Besides from turning consoles into more of a computer than it already is, the first thing I would love to see implemented is some voice activation, similar to what the Kinect has. Second thing I want is the most important. Cross console online gaming. Or being able to play with people on the 360 on my PS3, or vice-versa.

I like to a console for what it is a console. There is no need for "you can update your twitter and facebook" crap. I can't really see where console can really improve and happy with the way it is now. I just hope next generation they stole focusing of on silly things like kinetic, move and 3D. I just stick to the original set up you, a control pad and a console.

I know one thing they can improve on DLC. Why pay for it when you've already bought the game itself, is that not enough and pre order deals. That's gotta stop, just look at Batman: Arkum City.

Speaking for Xbox360 since that's what I own... Facebook and Twitter aren't integrated well enough into the 360 dashboard. Same with Zune and Last.Fm... You need to be able to use these apps while playing a game or while doing something else. Also 360 needs to get a deal with Pandora going, and be able to stream that while gaming. I never really use my 360 for playing music or for checking facebook and twitter. That's because it's slower than doing it on the computer, and on the computer you can do everything at once without closing one to go to the other. The quick menu should have facebook and twitter notifications that you can check quickly without exiting your game, and you should have the ability to pause a game to watch a movie on netflix, and return to your game as you were.

As much room as I see for improvement, I don't see why all of this can't be achieved via a dashboard update. Having said that, I don't think the next generation is needed until significantly faster, better, more advanced hardware is available. I do believe bluetooth could be better utilized in next generation gaming, though.

Oh sorry, man.

I think the current systems are fine but I would like new systems with better features. That's all I can think of now.

I hope in the future they still keep discs. Because I read somewhere that they might get rid of discs for Gaming altogether... that would mean no used games. :( Also I'd like to see more wireless and bluetooth in the Next Generation consoles...

I've heard rumors saying that the new Next Gen consoles are going to be revealed at E3 2012 and I've heard other rumors saying that there is no need for Next Gen consoles right now, and that they are going to be coming out in 2013-2014.

@Dday: I just don't think that would work. PSN is free and you have to pay for Xbox Live. Every one would just get a PS3 then if it's the same online community because it's free.

Current systems are severely outdated in hardware terms, I for one cannot wait for a newer generation, And it will start up with the WiiU. Games like Battlefield 3, RAGE and Skyrim will show that a new gen is needed as their PC counterparts are going to be far superior. Timeline wise I think new consoles will be out around 2013-2014.

The add ons to the current gen (Netfilix, Sky, Twitter, Facebook etc etc) are helping bring in more casual crowds, And Motion Control is helping give longevity for consoles and yet again bringing in more casual crowds. The features are cool But I don't use them all too much myself. But as I said its brings in new customers.
