A Date With Wolverine
Release date set, villain cast.
by IGN Staff
October 18, 2007 - 20th Century Fox has set a firm release date and cast the bad guy for their forthcoming X-Men spin-off, Wolverine, starring Hugh Jackman.
The movie, which is now officially titled X-Men Origins: Wolverine, had been expected to arrive in late 2008. But as today's Hollywood Reporter scoops, the studio has penciled it in for a more realistic May 1, 2009 release.
Additionally, THR reports that Liev Schreiber (The Omen, A Walk on the Moon) will play Wolvie's nemesis William Stryker in the flick, a much younger version of the character played by Brian Cox in X2.
Wolverine follows Logan through his violent past and early relationships, while exploring his connection with Victor Creed and the mysterious Weapon X program. The story is also expected to feature his encounters with other mutants -- some we've seen in the earlier films and some that we haven't.
The flick will reportedly start shooting in Australia before moving on to New Zealand and New Orleans, Louisiana.
Principle photography on the movie may begin as early as next month with Gavin Hood (Tsotsi) directing from a script by David Benioff.
