I think the WWE can make this work this time.
I mean Bourne, Mysterio, Sin Cara, Justin Gabriel and possibly Daniel Bryan and Tyson Kidd (weight wise they fit the bill) are a good starting point to have if you want to create a competitive cruiserweight/lightheavy-weight division. Signing a few names on top of those who are different in look and style but compliment the current guys they have at that weight and some of the matches the WWE could produce are mouth watering prospects.
I mean given a proper fued and enough in ring time can anyone honestly tell me that a Bourne/Gabriel fued (for instance) would suck? The matches alone would be epic spot-fests which offer something entirely different to the equivalent heavyweight matches.
The lighter weight class was something that TNA had been doing right for years besides the last 18 months (though recently they are giving it another push) because it offered something different in comparison to the rest of the show and that change of pace can be refreshing.
Granted, with the WWE you have to be cynical and say that it won't last or it won't be fully integrated to the point where the cruiserweight title is reintroduced. etc. But I think the potential at hand is something that the WWE would be stupid not to explore, especially with some of the talent that the WWE could sign to further the possibilities.
I'm not going to go into dream mode and list the TNA X division but poaching a couple of good workers from there along with some solid indy guys and promoting guys like Xavier Woods, Epico, Hunico and Peter Orlov from development and you've created a whole new league with the WWE that could be amazing.
